1/2 Plate Ambrotype of James Bradford Dresser, Justice of the Peace

300.00

This very strong, half plate ambrotype of James Bradford Dresser, of Adams Basin (Monroe County), New York, comes with a good deal of provenance.  Behind the photograph is written “James Bradford Dresser, b. Nov. 20, 1819, son of James and Hannah (Curtis) Dresser, Died March 16, 1901, married Ann Irwin Oct. 31, 1844 – Justice of [the] Peace 1854 -1962, Adams Basin, N.Y., Organist & Choir leader, 1854, P.A. at his house 1856”.  Based on this information I would estimate this photograph was taken sometime in the late 1850s to early 1860s.  The ambrotype comes in a full “Bunches of Grapes in an Oval” leather case with double clasps.  The case is in very good to excellent condition with new inner and outer hinges (your satisfaction guaranteed) and a clean mat and preserver. The velvet trim pad has an “L” shaped tear. This is an outstanding photograph and case that will make a wonderful addition to any collection.
