Japanese Ambrotype Husbands and Wives

Japanese Ambrotype Husbands and Wives

175.00

This is a lot of two Japanese ambrotypes from the Meiji Period that appear to be of husband and wives, probably from the same family. It is evident that both photographs were taken in the same studio and probably on the same day. All are wearing the traditional garb, but each man is wearing a bowler hat. What I find interesting is that in one photo the man is sitting and holding an umbrella. In the other photograph the woman is sitting. There is some Kanji script on back of the case written is a white ink or crayon that is very difficult to distinguish. There are some condition issues with the photographs.
