Japanese Scholar Ambrotype

Japanese Scholar Ambrotype

300.00

This is a very nice ambrotype of a young Japanese scholar identified as "Mr. Kuga Masamichi". It appears that he is sitting on floor next to a stack of books, one that he is apparently reading. A close inspection of the open book reveals the vertical lines of Japanese text. In the background are two large scrolls with Japanese ideographs.

This ambro comes in a full polonia or kiri wood case (Berg 6-138, VR p. 460). There is kanji script on the back of the case that identifies Mr. Masamichi. The case is missing the top and left side rail pieces on the cover which can easily be replaced. The image measures 2 x 3 inches and the case is 2.75 x 3.5 inches.
